Myopia Control for Kids in Mount Pleasant
If you’ve noticed your child’s prescription getting stronger every year, you aren’t alone. While nearsightedness (myopia) is becoming more common, we have tools that do more than just correct it.
Why Slowing Myopia is Important
When a child is nearsighted, their eyes often grow slightly too long from front to back. If you don't manage this growth, it can lead to much higher prescriptions and a greater risk of severe eye health issues later in life, such as retinal detachment or glaucoma. By stepping in early with a management plan, we aren't just giving them clearer vision today; we are protecting the structural health of their eyes for the future.
From medical treatments to your annual eye exam, we provide a wide range of services at Pleasant Optics.
Conveniently located, we offer flexible hours to fit your busy schedule, so your care works around your life.

How Myopia Management Works
It sounds like science fiction, but the technology is remarkably grounded in how the eye perceives light. Standard glasses only focus light at the center of the retina, which can sometimes signal the eye to keep growing.
Specialized myopia management lenses use "peripheral defocus". This is a fancy way of saying they redirect light to the outer edges of the retina. This sends a natural signal to the brain and the eye to slow that elongation.
Options for Myopia Control
At Pleasant Optics, we are proud to offer MiSight® 1-day contact lenses, a revolutionary treatment for children starting as young as age eight. Unlike standard contacts that only correct blurred vision, MiSight® lenses feature ActivControl™ technology. This dual-focus design treats the root cause of myopia by signaling the eye to slow its elongation.
Clinical studies have shown that MiSight® can slow the progression of nearsightedness by an average of 59%, helping your child enjoy clearer vision now while reducing their risk of high prescription strength complications in the future.
A child’s eye changes rapidly. We provide detailed axial length monitoring and refractive tracking to determine if your child is at risk for high myopia.
We fit MiSight® daily disposables—the first FDA-approved contact lenses proven to slow the elongation of the eye while providing crisp, clear vision.
A Lifetime of Healthy Vision
Myopia management is a journey, and we are here to walk it with your family. Most of our young patients begin their journey during a pediatric eye exam, where we first identify the signs of nearsightedness.
As they grow and their needs change, we continue to provide the care that keeps their vision stable. And because we are a true community practice, we’re also here for the rest of your family with comprehensive eye exams.
Your child’s vision is a window into their future, and we are here to help ensure it stays as bright as possible. If you’re tired of seeing their prescription get stronger every year, it’s time to explore a more proactive path. Dr. Lucia McElwain at Pleasant Optics is ready to partner with you to find the myopia management solution that fits your child’s lifestyle and goals.
